Adco’s Solar Carport featured in Staten Island Advance
In an article titled “Just Call it the Carport of the Future” published in the Staten Island Advance on March 31, 2013, Tracey Porpora reported on an innovative solar carport design that provides energy to the offices at 201 Edward Curry Ave. in Bloomfield.
“This is the first solar carport in the five boroughs,” he said. “We are lowering our carbon footprint, and are generating power to the building using the sun, which is cutting the electrical costs for the building.” said Michael Paladino, chief engineer and building manager.
“The carport supplies roughly 5 percent of the building’s power annually,” said Palladino. The $300,000 carport project, which sits on the company’s 6-acre expanse, was completed in January by Addwell LLC in conjunction with American Solar Partners, based in White Plains, N.Y.
The project received a $19,648 grant from the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) in June 2012, said Alan N. Wechsler, a NYSERDA spokesman.
